As we move into the Fall of our second year in a pandemic, we begin to see new trends within the film industry emerging. Blockbuster films such as Avatar 2, The Batman, and Mission Impossible 7 have all been postponed or pushed back due to Hollywood’s crackdown on Covid, leaving fans in anticipation for extra weeks, months, and even years. Streaming vs. the Big Screens?
With movie lovers looking to get off the couch and back into theaters, the search for entertainment has begun. Luckily, we need to look no further than to independent films, who have decided to take the time and effort necessary to meet their promised release dates during these times.
Independent writers, producers, and filmmakers are pushing the envelope and beginning to fill in the void that major blockbusters are leaving for fans. The indie film companies are using data and spending the marketing budgets needed to compete with "hollywood" titles at the box office.
Executive Producer, Derek H. Potts brings us one of those independent films with "Narco Sub" the independent Action/Adventure film of the Summer. Packed full of raw talent and suspense, the audience follows the compelling story of a former U.S. Navy Seal who becomes a criminal, to rescue his wife and daughter from the Colombian drug cartel. The Remi Award winner for “Best Action Film” is sure to provide movie-goers with all of the entertainment satisfaction we are looking for.
Welling Films - Narco Sub
Not only are independent films putting in the effort to meet release dates, they are also strategically collaborating with cinema owners to identify new opportunities during these changing times. With the postponement of major movies, theaters have been struggling to put new content on the Big Screens.
Welling Films - Narco Sub
Independent filmmakers have realized this situation, which makes them work even harder to meet deadlines and support theaters in ways that may have not been possible pre-pandemic. There is an obvious need for localization, as it pertains to movies and a specific audience.

Produced by Deepwater Productions, a boutique producer of independent feature-length films. Based in Houston, Texas amidst a robust independent film following, Deepwater Productions takes pride in being one of the few such companies in the Nation’s 4th largest city.
The Texas Film Scene is proving that you don’t need to be in Hollywood to get things done.
Summer of Stryker is here!
When a person typically thinks of Texas, they might not necessarily think of Film productions and Movie premieres on the red carpet, as one of the major qualities of the Lone Star state.
This has changed recently, with Texas-based companies producing Hollywood level films and bringing in the talent to match.
Non-studio companies have not let the pandemic halt their progress. As a matter of fact, they have found more ways to produce and distribute films efficiently and with tighter budgets. Deepwater Productions has hosted a series of Military Appreciation Watch Parties, where they offer free T-shirts for a certain number of early guests.
Will the recent box office success of these independent companies attract big budget production companies and talent agencies out of Southern California, and into Texas or Florida?
Is there training and development established
for filmmakers and talent in the South?

Deepwater Productions, a Houston based production company, with Derek H. Potts (Founder/Producer) at the Helm. The Deepwater team has produced a feature-length and award-winning film amidst a pandemic called “Narco Sub” which has been screening at cinemas during the Summer of Stryker campaign.
The team at Deepwater Productions brought together a cast that makes the film feel genuine and exciting. With Tom Sizemore, Lee Majors, Robert Lasardo, Jen Barbeito and Tom Vera as the lead talent in this Action/Adventure film the audience is left satisfied and entertained.
“Narco Sub” has been successfully distributed around the country with military appreciation tickets offered to our veterans and their families at no cost, through partners like VetTix and Impact Releasing.
Deepwater will be showing “Narco Sub” at the #summerofstryker events starting up September 10th, 2021, aka “Patriots Day” eve in many cities across southern United States.
These two Texas companies show that Hollywood production companies and talent agencies in Southern California are not the only way to achieve professional Film success and talent development.
Local Veteran Founded Podcast, "Southpaw's Tales From the Barstool", has collaborated with Deepwater Productions, VetFlicks and Impact Releasing to bring a special screening of the movie "NARCO SUB" before its national theatrical release.
This type of entertainment business collaboration is a sign of huge success for independent filmmakers, cinema owners, and independent film distribution in the United States. This screening is made possible only with the cooperation of supportive forward-thinking cinema owners, who understand the business of building long-lasting and meaningful relationships.
An event like this is solid proof that there is in fact a place for entrepreneurial and creative people. The Hollywood machine may have some advantages over indie filmmakers, but not all of the advantages.
Audiences can be pleased to know that their requests for fresh content have been heard by Deepwater Productions, and the call has been answered to bring more authentic stories to cinemas near you.
