Do you know of another platform, on EARTH that will be releasing over 50 films directly from Africa, produced by African filmmakers, and available to the worldwide diaspora of African people?

As an American, we usually ONLY get the “Hollywood” version of what is Africa. When people experience the content on Rootflix and The African Film Festival, we can get a real sense of different cultures, clothing, food, music, and more about authentic Africa and the beautiful people who live there.

It is highly important that we preserve this message. The filmmakers are creating amazing stories, we must share it for them. These are authentic stories told by filmmakers who KNOW their culture.

The African Film Festival (TAFF) celebrates its 5th Anniversary!

The African Film Festival (TAFF) created to showcase African independent films

will continue its tradition by hosting the 2020 edition of its annual film exhibition.

This fifth (5th) edition will be hosted online at www.rootflix.com due to the current unforeseen pandemic.

The 4-day festival will kick off on Tuesday, June 2nd

through Saturday, June 6th with film screenings and an Awards night.

The African Film Festival (TAFF) will showcase one of a kind African independent

films that either promote African culture; address issues affecting Africa; or

explore African landmarks and historic leaders.

This annual festival strives to “Bridge cultures through films” by inviting a diverse audience to celebrate some of the best films from and about the African continent.

This year’s festival attendees will have the privilege of watching the festival

selections in the comfort of their own homes, as well as, on demand.

The film portal ROOTFLIX will showcase the selected films and the awards ceremony.

Currently, trailers of the films and full featured films from previous festivals can

be viewed on www.rootflix.com.

Through ROOTFLIX, enjoy quality, culturally rich narratives, documentaries, animations and more!

Starting in April 2020, for each day, a movie trailer of the day can be seen on social

media.

Festival attendees will be treated to an exploration of the African

continent through the global lens and voices of talented filmmakers, producers

and talent artist.

This June 2020 celebrate the freedom and creativity of Africa by supporting the

independent filmmakers highlighted at this year’s African Film Festival!

Congratulations to Marina Viscun​ (Veteran) on having her film Scratch on Metal​ selected to screen at the Clovis Veterans Memorial Film Festival 2017.

The film wouldn't have been possible without Veterans Make Movies program supported by LACMA Los Angeles County Museum of Art and Los Angeles Public Library, instructors Henry Hughes and Brigid McCaffrey, cast Jessica Ellis and Jonathon Michals, and #WeAreWITI

ABOUT the film Scratch on Metal:
"I'm extremely proud to submit "Scratch on Metal" and share the film with the local community.  

I strongly believe in the message of the film because of its complex topics: family members dealing to their spouses' experience in the military, difficulties they face when the loved one is away in harms way, and protection the family unit at all costs.

This film was supported by the Veterans Make Movies program through a collaboration of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Los Angeles Public Library. 

The film had an all female crew and included three veterans."

Marina Viscun is an award-winning producer living and working in Los Angeles, CA. 

She has worked in various formats: television - Adult Swim, Nickelodeon, History; film - Big Voice, The Option; web - Oishi High School Battle/Smosh, The Tyler Zone/FX; branded entertainment - Ode to Los Angeles, Journey to Safety PSA; and music videos - Slash, Purity Ring, Imagine Dragons, Lonely Island. 

She has been honored with Grand Jury and Audience Awards, and Silver Telly for her previous collaboration with Varda Bar-Kar on Ode to Los Angeles and Journey to Safety, respectively.



Marina's approach toward producing combines her personal and professional experiences as an immigrant, veteran, educator and content creator. 

Her goal is to introduce people to social issues through an array of projects addressing individual internal and external struggles that humanity ignores due to the complex structures and systems of our lives. 

While having a goal to inform, Marina strives to increase entertainment factor in socially conscious media to make its products accessible and enjoyable to all.


Marina is the President of Pingvin Productions, is serving on the Events and Programming Committee with NewFilmmakers/LA, and officiated as Operations Director for San Pedro International Film Festival. She likes chocolate, animals, traveling, and good company.
