Indie doc film screening - William Saroyan - The Man, The Writer

The film “WILLIAM SAROYAN: The Man, The Writer” will be screening in Fresno, California and the filmmakers will be on hand for a Q & A! This can be a great opportunity for any young filmmakers in Fresno to go see an amazing piece of art and network with other like-minded individuals.

The silver anniversary screening of William Saroyan: The Man, The Writer, a documentary on the life and works of Academy Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning author, playwright, humanitarian and USA/USSR Saroyan Stamp Honoree, will take place, along with a luncheon, at his boyhood church: 




The First Armenian Presbyterian Church in Fresno, California. The film features narration by William Saroyan and another famous Fresno native, television and movie star, actor Mike Connors.  



The documentary written and directed by Paul Kalinian and produced by his daughter Dr. Susie Kalinian has been screened in more than 60 cities and 19 countries around the world and won the 1995 Gold Award for Best Documentary Film from the Philadelphia International Film Festival.   


The documentary portrays Saroyan’s childhood memories, growing up in Fresno, how he decided to become a writer, his 60 year writing career, his international fame, character, philosophy and the undying love and passion he felt toward the country where he was born, America and the country of his forefather’s, Armenia. 
 

A Catered Luncheon will begin in the First Armenian Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall located at First & Huntington Blvd at 1:00 pm, followed by the William Saroyan Documentary Film in the Sanctuary at 2:00 pm, a Question and Answer session with the Film Makers, concluding with a dessert reception! 
 

The lovely literary afternoon will include an exhibition of Saroyan photographs, quotes and memorabilia, including a display of the Gold Award Statue for Best Documentary, an accomplished violinist, a book signing of "Breaking Bread with William Saroyan" by Janice Stevens and Pat Hunter, and many more surprises.  Special Guests will include: US Congressman Jim Costa, Fresno County Supervisor Nathan Magsig and Fresno State President Dr. Joseph Castro.
 

Attendees will be coming from all over California to celebrate the life and works of William Saroyan, including Kingsburg, Reedley, Cupertino, Pasadena, San Francisco, Tulare, Fowler, Merced, Turlock, San Jose and Los Angeles.  Please join us in supporting the charitable projects of Knights & Daughters of Vartan.
